Teaching Subjects or Teaching Students

Teaching school is as much a calling as it is a job. And in fact when you review the teachers at the school where your child will be going, you will notice that the good ones are as much missionaries with a zeal for guiding young minds as they are people who come to work to perform a function. But there can be no question that what makes any school great whether it’s the most expensive private school in town or a public school with overcrowded classes is the quality of the teachers who will be with your child for hours each and every day.

For a teacher, deciding whether to go the public or private school route can be a tough decision. While the environment of every school is different, the calling of each teacher might be somewhat different. For teachers with a specific focus such as in music or art, to teach in a private school devoted to that niche of education is ideal. But many teachers seek to educate young people in a general area of knowledge such as math or English feel called to teach but the subject matter isn’t as crucial. And for this type of teacher who thrives on larger classes and on taking disinterested students and transforming them into devout scholars, the public school setting is a good choice.

For parents evaluating schools, if you sit in on classes and are able to watch teachers work with their students, you can learn a lot just seeing that interaction and observing the body language of the teacher and how they present themselves to the class. Much of the confidence and sense of creative presentation that comes from the best teachers reflects the relationship between the school itself and the teacher.

Many times in a public school situation teachers can become so burdened with rules and stipulations that come down from the state and pertain to student behavior, safety guidelines and other non academic items that, while important, can dilute the pure relationship between teacher and subject and student.

So if you see a teacher who is having success establishing rapport with the students and engaging them with personality and humor in the subject at hand, you may be witnessing a public school administration that made it a point to make the purpose of each classroom to be about education and that is reflected in teacher attitudes as well. This is rare in the public school arena, but it happens.

This is not to say that every private school is staffed 100% with creative and inspiring teachers. So it’s a good idea to evaluate several teachers in any school because, as in any profession, there are good ones and bad ones. One question you can ask while observing any teacher in action might be, “Is this teacher teaching the subject or teaching students.” The difference is the attitude that teacher has toward students. Teachers who love their subject and are just looking for loyal students to absorb their wisdom do not interact with the young people as much.

But teachers who are true educators are fascinated with the learning process in students and love the interaction between student and teacher. You can tell if the instructor likes students and the affection is two ways by watching the body language of teacher and students. If there is a lot of eye contact, frequent smiling and laughter and there is a genuine joy in the room, that is a teacher who was put on this earth to be doing this one task. And that is the kind of teacher you want your child to learn from.

While you are more likely to encounter this kind of teacher in the private school setting, these are the real gems that make any school they work in great. But if you find one particular school where this is the kind of teacher you meet the most as you review classes, that reflects that in addition to teachers who are all about education and all about making great students, you have also found a school that from the administration on down is devoted to taking young people and making them wonderful scholars and lovers of knowledge. And when you find that school, make it your child’s home because that is the place to be.

Helene Goldnadel Tips to Start on Your Personal Development Journey

If your personal development plan has stalled or is just sitting on the back burner, maybe all you need is a little inspiration to get things moving again. The inspirational suggestions made by Helene Goldnadel in the article below may be just what you need to get motivated toward moving on your way to a better you.

A great tip for developing yourself is to avoid solely using your memory. You can do this by being analytical with your thoughts. You must always digest the things that are in your brain. Have wisdom inside your knowledge. This is because without wisdom, you cannot have proper knowledge.

Listen to children on the road to personal development. Out of the mouth of babes comes some very sage advice. For instance, a child and a mother are having a conversation about picking the child up from school. The mother goes off on a tangent about not knowing what to do in the winter. The child looks up and says: "Do not worry about it until it happens Mom." Kids are pretty smart if you know how to listen to them.

Any time that you are starting a new diet, exercise routine, course or other type of development you should make it a top priority for at least a month. After this you can probably reduce the amount of mental energy necessary as it becomes routine, but at the beginning it is essential to reinforce what you are doing.

Make a detailed, thorough list of all of your past and present accomplishments as they relate to home, school, work, and your health. Do not miss an opportunity to make additions to your list. Visit it every day to remind yourself of the importance of who you are and what you do, and how you can continue to add to the list.

Believe it or not being too nice to others often means not being nice enough to yourself. Part of personal development is fulfilling the obligation to self and this cannot always be accomplished when you are at the beck and call of a dozen individuals. You need to put yourself at the top of your list of priorities, and then tend to others.

Work on discovering your personal strengths. Try making a list of the ones you know and try making a list of your weaknesses that hold you back from being the strong person that you think you are or could be. Even opinions from others, like friends or family, can give you some insight on how to better yourself.

Effective personal development starts with making a conscious decision to change one or more areas of your life. Pick an area of your life where you have a problem that needs to be solved and make a plan that will result in a lasting change, not just a quick fix.

If you need some fresh motivation to inspire your personal development plan, you are not alone. Everyone can use some inspiration to get started on such a daunting task. Now is the time to take the advice in the article above, and find out how good your life can be.

Personal Development for Kids by Helene Goldnadel

Helping kids trough the various stages of personal development is a complex and fragile task for any parent. Yet, the littlest things parents do - or show - can amount to a tremendous learning experience for their kids. Altering the tone and focus of interaction between parent and child, as well as allotting sufficient time to listen and talk to them can help pave the way in ensuring the child will grow up to become a strong and confident adult.

Knowing the importance of facilitating the development of kids and debugging the many myths surrounding child-rearing are crucial for any hands-on parents. More, it is the duty of any parent to act as a role model for their children. To be an effective tool for the kid's personal development can also mean a developmental journey for the parent - it's a two-way street after all.

Personality means distinctive qualities that establish one's identity - physical features, behavior, pattern of thoughts, emotionality and communication ability. Some of these characteristics are imbibed since birth while some manifest through time and development. A child inherits a lot of personality traits from his parents, though some are inherently his alone. A child's personality develops in a very natural process and is vulnerable as well as susceptible to external influences. The people a kid is exposed to, the environment he exists in, along with his various experiences - all these have their own positive or negative impact.

Early years of a person's life is his formative years - kind of like the make or break stage. Personal development for kids involves enhancing their potentials and correcting their inherent flaws in a positive way. Deep permanent scars on the psychology of a child may develop if adults are not careful while rearing a child. By developing all aspects of a kid, you are helping him to grow up into the best that he can be. You can do this by making sure that the kid plays enough, reads enough and socializes enough.

How to Develop a Child's Personality

It is imperative to learn the different factors that constitute a child's personality. In general, these are the child's physical traits which are visible, and then the invisible ones - attitude, behavior pattern, feelings and aspirations, principles, and intellectual qualities. Recognizing is always an essential step, from there you can move on to the next step.

In a nutshell, developing a child's personality relies heavily on a number of things but will always circle back to the role parents play in the child's life. Treatment, interaction as well as expression of affection at home are still the core factors that develop a child's personality to some extent. Other factors include the cultural milieu in which the child is brought up, contribution made by the school, how the kid is allowed to socialize, as well as the various instruments and facilities accessible to the child for his or her overall development.

Qualities to Develop in a Kid

Long ago, parents view children’s personal development as simply keeping them in healthy condition and clothing them well - aesthetics and the visible, if you notice. Modern times have put a different spin on what constitutes a well-developed person. There has been a steady increase in the importance of personal development, which goes beyond the visible.

An attractive and good personality can easily influence people. In this fast-paced, competitive world, the ability to influence others is a prime commodity. Being an age of competition and economic revolution, those with well-developed personalities often rise above the rest. Kids raised confident and secured with them are often these people.

The Different Stages of Child Development Discussed by Helene Goldnadel

Child Development refers to the changes that take place in children from birth to the period of adolescence - to the time when a child is no longer entirely dependent on his/her parents (or other adults). These changes are usually physical, biological, emotional, mental and psychological and are also influenced by genes and sometimes by prenatal events too. A child is deemed to be developing when he/she starts doing things on its own, learning new things and hence, starts gaining maturity.

Helene Goldnadel a life coach discusses the following different stages of child development:
  1. Infancy - This refers to the period from birth till around the age of one. The newborn quickly learns that its only mode of communication is crying which it aptly uses to express a variety of feelings like hunger, boredom or even its desire for wanting something. A little later, the infant starts developing emotionally through interaction with the adults.
  2. Toddler - This is the next stage when a child learns to walk and slowly develops motor skills and starts using proper language for communication. As understanding dawns, the child experiences great and rapid psychological changes too. He/she starts recognizing himself/herself in the mirror, displays attachment and starts doing things on his/her own.
  3. Preschooler - The period between ages three to six when a child goes through significant emotional, social, mental and physical changes. With the help of games, songs and stories, a child starts learning responsibility, individuality, cooperation and to think and reason in a proper way.
  4. School goers (Elementary school) - The stage when a child receives his/her first formal education and learns to read, write and develop mathematical skills.
  5. Adolescent - The age from thirteen to twenty when a child grows up physically and mentally into an adult. This is a transitional stage taking place between puberty to maturity and is characterised by rapid physical, emotional, mental and psychological changes.

These years are extremely critical as they lay the foundation of future life. How a person grows up to be, how he/she behaves, what are his values and ethics, how he/she communicates is influenced from these early years. For good development, it is thus important that a child should be taken good care of and properly instructed right from the beginning.
